The number of Greek sex workers is also on rise in the country (Video below) |
The ongoing economic crisis in Greece has rattled its sex industry so much that the going rate for sex has fallen from €50 to as low as just €2 for a single session, or the price of a sandwich.
The widely quoted piece of data has been attributed to professor Gregory Lazos of the Panteion University, Athens, who has documented 18,500 sex workers in Greece and studied them.
Some women just do it for a cheese pie, or a sandwich they need to eat because they are hungry,' he told The Times.
Before the crisis started mostly Eastern European women were working as prostitutes in Greece.
The country is steeply divided in pushing the reforms that are required to pull it out as most politicians and citizens are it ready for the pain.
