The Modi government is considering a proposal to double the salaries and allowances of MPs to Rs 2.8 lakh per month.
Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs currently draw Rs 50,000 as salary, Rs 45,000 as constituency allowance and another Rs 45,000 as office allowance.
All of these will double if the new proposal is implemented. The basic pension would raise from Rs 20,000 per month to Rs 35,000.
The proposal has been sent to the Finance Ministry for approval, reports The Indian Express. If it gets a favourable nod, Parliament would amend the Salary, Allowance and Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment) Bill to make the changes.

A recent effort by AAP government to increase Delhi MLAs salary had sparked off a huge controversy.
