Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has reportedly signed an MoU with the Tirumala temple to conduct scientific research on Vedas.

The agreement was signed between India's premier defence research agency's missile tech unit (RCI)-DRDO and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), reports Bangalore Mirror.

The Hyderabad-based (RCI)-DRDO runs sophisticated labs that work on Guided Missile Systems and it is not clear what they will do under the MOU.

DRDO scientists are not giving out details, says Mirror.

DRDO scientists have dabbled in religion in the past as well though without authorisation.

A DRDO Pune team had worked for a year using large amounts of silver to build the motorised chariot and donated it to AlandiTemplein Pune. The project, which had not been sanctioned, had cost DRDO Rs 5 crore, Indian Express had reported.

The DRDO Tirumala temple pact seems to be in line with Modi government push to get scientists involved in the study of ancient Indian developments.

Water Resources Minister Uma  Bharti had recently directed scientists at National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) to research if the origin of Saraswati could be traced to Kailash Mansarovar.
