Heart-stopping photo of Himachal bus reversing at suicide point – seems to be authentic (With video)

A photo of a Himachal government bus taking reverse turn at Suicide Point in Kinnaur district is buzzing on social media.

It shows an empty Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus precariously balanced on the edge of a cliff. The caption the bus informs that is making a reverse turn, probably after offloading the passengers.

Though it may look like a photoshop masterpiece, the picture seems to be authentic.

One, it has been shared by the HRTC Facebook page, which has nearly 25,000 likes. While the page has not been verified, there are signs that it is the official page of the HRTC, which also goes by the name Himachal Parivahan.

Suicide Point is a popular tourist attraction

 Two, the caption given by HRTC also informs that the bus belongs to the Rekong Peo depot.  The spot where it is making the reverse turn has been identified as Suicide Point, Roghi at Kalpa.

Rekong Peo is the HQ of Kinnaur district and Kalpa is a small town in the Sutlej river valley, above Recong Peo, which itself stands at an altitude of 7,513 ft.

It also credits the photo to a Ravinder Thakur.

The bus drivers on these routes are possibly used to heights much like the mountain goats. Kissing death at suicide point may seem like child’s play for them.
