A rare giant squid was spotted in Toyama Bay in Japan just before Chistmas.
A video shows the animal swimming close to the surface of Toyama Bay much to the delight of the lucky onlookers.
Giant squids grow up to 43 feet and are a rare sight as they live in deep waters. The specimen, which was spotted, was probably a juvenile and measured just 12 feet.
The impressive animal looked stranded and was seen swimming under the fishing boats when a local diver Akinobu Kimura plunged into water to take a closer look at the monster.
"My curiosity was way bigger than fear, so I jumped into the water and go close to it," he told CNN.
Akinobu Kimura noted that the squid was not injured and probably just lost. He guided the squid towards to the ocean, away from the area where it was found.
And it disappeared into the deep sea.
