Arnab Goswami started the interview thanking Modi twice for the rare opportunity to interview him (tweets below)

June 27, 2016, NewsCrunch

Times Now editor Arnab Goswami’s exclusive interview with PM Modi ran on expected lines.

He started the interview thanking Modi twice for the rare opportunity to interview him.

In the second question, he said he and his readers were grateful for getting a chance to hear Modi’s views on range of issues. It rolled down the hill steadily after that.

The interview rambled on with longish questions and with even longer answers, moving at an excruciating speed from one topic to another.

There were two points worth noting – Modi chiding Subramanian Swamy and lamenting the lack of humour in public life, for whatever they were worth.

It was all what Modi wanted to get across, with Arnab Goswami not even trying pretending to challenge any of them.

After Baba Ramdev's Patanjali, Junagadh University researchers find gold in cow urine

A team of researchers at Junagadh Agricultural University (JAU) have found gold in the urine of Gir cows, a breed indigenous to India. The researches say the gold in cow urine is in ionic form, or in the form of gold salts dissolved in water, but can be processed chemically and turned into solids. The claim follows an announcement by Patanjali Natural Coloroma Limited that it had found traces of gold in cow urine. Baba Ramdev had shared the result findings in 2014 and there is no update if Patanjali has commenced commercial production of gold from cow urine.
In a best case scenario, the team at Junagadh Agricultural University would be able to turn 10,000 litres of cow urine into one kg of gold.

The Times of India reports that the Junagadh researchers took urine samples of 400 Gir cows and tested them at the Food Testing Laboratory of JAU over four years.

They found gold ranging from three mg to 10 mg from one litre of Gir cow urine. So, in a best case scenario, they would be able to turn 10,000 litres of cow  urine into one kg of gold.

The team of researchers led by Dr B A Golakia, head of biotechnology department, used gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method to isolate gold salts.

He told TOI that it was the first detailed scientific analysis to prove claims made in ancient scriptures that cow urine contained gold.

Baba Ramdev had shared the result findings in 2014 and there is no update if Patanjali has commenced commercial production of gold from cow urine.
The Junagadh research team also screened urine samples of camel, buffaloes, sheep and goat but did not find any traces of gold in them. They now plan to analyze urine samples of all 39 indigenous cow breeds of India to find gold.

Religious minded Hindu researchers have held that cow urine contains elements that promises cure for a host of diseases. There is also a traditional belief that cow urine contains copper, which converts into gold inside the human body to remove toxicity.

The notion that urine contains gold is not limited to Hinduism alone. Medieval alchemists in Europe tried to extract gold from urine and the discovery of substances white phosphorus and urea are credited to this quest.

Ravi Shastri has been blaming Saurav Ganguly for not getting selected as the India cricket coach. But it has emerged that Virat Kohli played a major role in Anil Kumble stepping into the role.

And Virat Kohli seems to have made a strictly professional choice in backing Anil Kumble.

Spinners, India’s main bowling stay, have consistently failed to perform outside the subcontinent and Kohli wants Kumble to fix this problem, reports The Indian Express.

Indiahas lost 15 overseas Tests over the last five years largely due to spinners failing to deliver.

Early on, Virat Kohli had backed Ravi Shastri as well. He had said that Ravi Shastri’s experience would give his young team confidence. But he seem to have changed his stance after Anil Kumble entered the coaching race.

After Ravi Shastri was eliminated from the reckoning, it became a two-men contest between Anil Kumble and the Australian  Tom Moody, who came with impressive coaching credentials.

Virat Kohli gave his feedback to Cricket Advisory Committee consisting of  Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, V V S Laxman and Sanjay Jagdale, which in turn recommended Anil Kumble’s name to BCCI.

A controversy erupted after Ravi Shastri complained that Sourav Ganguly was missing from the meeting in which he was interviewed for the job.

A group of teens abused an immigrant man in pony tail in a tram in  Manchester on Tuesday morning.

In the crowded tram, the teens picked on the man as he stood out racially.

They asked him to go back to wherever he came and told him repeatedly to get off  the train.

The man stood his ground and told them that they were not very intelligent, and that he had spent more time in Englandthan them.

That enraged the abusers and one of them moved close to him menacingly brandishing a beer bottle. “Bro, I’ll waste you, I’ll waste anyone,” one of the teenagers was filmed saying.

It was only after other commuters, who were a bit slow to react, intervened that they backed off.

The incident was recorded by a woman commuter and the Manchester police are said to be looking for the teens.

Englandhas been witnessing an upsurge in racist attacks following its vote to exit from the EU.

PM Modi's  supporters are upset with Aaj Tak  after it tried to contrast his interview by Arnab Goswami with the one Karan Thapar had carried out in 2007 for his The Devil's Advocate programme.

Aaj Tak posted a tweet on Tuesday with two images - one with Arnab Goswami interviewing Modi, which was captioned when interviewed by chamchas. The one carrying snapshots of Modi during Karan Thapar show was captioned, when interviewed by a journalist.

After Modi supporters pulled it up, Aaj Tak apologisied saying the tweet was meant to be posted by a  personal handle and was by mistake posted officially.

In the 2007 interview, Karan Thapar had Modi, then the Guajarat CM, on the back foot. Modi's office later claimed that he had promised not to ask any question on the 2002 riots.

But Karan Thapar reportedly landed with a list of 45 questions only on the riots, which haunted Modi for a long time.

Unable to face the onslaught of questions made in Karan Thapar's characteristic combative style, Modi had sipped water, sweated a little and then walked off, terminating the interview abruptly.

The 2007 interview is often cited as the reason why Modi does not like to engage media in a freewheeling conversation.

TV channel Aaj Tak faced anger of Modi supporters when it tried to troll the interview PM gave to Times Now editor Arnab Goswami.

It sought to contrast the Times Now programme with the hostile interview carried out by Karan Thapar in 2007 for his show The Devils Advocate.

The Thapar interview had lasted for only 3 minutes after Modi had walked off unable to take his relentless questioning on Gujarat riots.

On Tuesday, Aaj Tak posted a tweet with two images - one with Arnab Goswami interviewing Modi, which was captioned when interviewed by chamchas. The one carrying snapshots of Modi during Karan Thapar show was captioned, when interviewed by a journalist.

After Modi supporters pulled it up, Aaj Tak apologisied saying the tweet was meant to be posted by a  personal handle and was by mistake posted officially.

It also requested in vain a Twitter user ‏@manichejain to delete a tweet he had posted to which he had attached the screenshots of Aaj Tak tweets.

The nation wants to know, who is the 'mad unelectable dog', Subramanian Swamy is referring to in his latest attack tweet. The nation also wants to know if he has taken his fight to Modi calling him Lord Muruga.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy posted a controversial tweet on Wednesday morning hinting that the campaign to silence him, led by Modi himself, had made little impact.

The latest tweet like most Subramanian Swamy posts, is couched in code words, and is open for multiple interpretations.

In the tweet, Subramanian Swamy, said Arnab G had been foaming in the mouth and chanting Muruga Muruga, as he had been bitten by 'a mad unelectable dog'.

There are three targets in the tweet. First, is easy to decipher and has been named: Arnab Goswami, whom Subramanian Swamy had sensationally ridiculed in one of the epic moments Indian TV history.

The second is a slightly difficult target - the 'mad unelectable dog' ? If you go by his followers' interpretation, who are gleefully decoding it, it is a certain media-savvy politician, who holds high posts and has taken on Subramanian Swamy recently.

In Arnab Goswami's infamous interview with Modi, there was a question on Subramanian Swamy's  campaign on RBI governor Raghuram Rajan. Modi had deplored and dismissed it as publicity stunt.

Subramanian Swamy's Wednesday tweet, placed in this context, seems to be blaming AJ for instigating Arnab Goswami to flag the issue during the interview.

Now, to the third and the trickiest part of the tweet, who is Muruga. Swamy himself clarified that Muruga is the Tamil name for Lord Subramanya. Muruga, Murga is a cry of devotion, which Subramanian Swamy accuses Arnab Goswami of chanting while foaming at mouth.

Ladies and gentlemen, in our esteemed opinion there is only one man, who fits the description: Modi himself.

The tweet can be arguably interpreted as Subramanian Swamy taking on the fight to Modi himself.

Before posting the 'mad unelectable dog' tweet, Subramanian Swamy had made another post disagreeing with Modi calling his campaign a publicity stunt. He said there were  30 OB bans in front of his house and 200 missed calls from the media on his phone.

Publicity had been relentlessly chasing him and it was not the other way around, he had pointed to Modi.

Let it also be placed on the record that, this is the first time, any BJP leader has publicly contradicted Modi on any issue, trivial or substantial.

In Modi's worldview, he is the fountainhead of all power and that brooks no dissent. There is omerta and there is Amit Shah to enforce it.

One man, Subramanian Swamy, seems to have a different opinion.

Some of the more outraged 'Nationalists' said Nirupama Rao  was ashamed to be an Indian. Twitter pic

June 30, 2016, NewsCrunch

A tweet posted by former foreign secretary Nirupama Rao on Wednesday upset 'Nationalists' so much, she deleted it in hurry, but not before triggering a full-fledged troll attack.

Nirupama Rao had pointed out that India ranked 105th in the human capital index. So, it was ''hubris'' to claim to be a ''leading power'' and 'some introspection was in order'', she said.

Nirupama Rao was probably voicing an opinion within foreign policy community that India's pursuit of NSG membership was more to get an affirmation of its self-perceived great power status than for any real benefits.

This opinion states that India already enjoys access to global nuclear markets, thanks to the 2008 waiver from NSA rules.

'Nationalists' probably took Nirupama Rao's tweet as an attack on the Modi, who had personally led the campaign for NSG membership, and kick-started  their response.
A screenshot of Nirupama Rao's deleted tweet

Their main contention is that Nirupama Rao was part of the system for 40 years and did nothing to improve it. Now that Modi is in power she was calling for introspection. That made her a Congress stooge, they allege.

Some of the more outraged 'Nationalists' said she was ashamed to be an Indian.

Nirupama Rao tried to engage the trolls saying she had never taken sides politically nor did she ever shy away from taking responsibility. But that seemed to have made little impact and the out-pour of 'Nationalst' angst continued.

Piyush Meena studying at his father's 8x8 open jail cell in Kota

June 30, 2016, NewsCrunch

Peeyush Meena, the boy who cracked IIT-JEE studying from an open jail in Kota, is not sure from where the money to pay for his graduation fees will come from.

After passing out of  12th in Shujalpur in Madhya Pradesh, he joined a coaching institute in Kota.

Unable to afford an hostel, he shifted to the open jail in the same town, where his father Phoolchand is serving  a life sentence for murder.

Speaking to The Times of India Phoolchand, a former school teacher said,  said he needed Rs 2 lakh to pay for coaching and hostel fees of Peeyush Meena. As he could arrange for only Rs 1 lakh, he was forced to accommodate his son in the open jail, which allows convicts to keep their relatives in the tiny 8x8 cell allotted to them.

Though elated at Peeyush Meena's success, Phoolchand is a worried man. He told The Hindustan Times that he is already under a Rs 3-lakh debt and does not know how to pay for his son’s IIT fees.

He also has to pay for the education of his daughter Komleen, who has passed Class 10 this year with 76% marks and wants to become a doctor.

Phoolchand's says his only hope is someone giving  a loan which can be paid back after Peeyush Meena passes out of IIT and gets a job.

The open jail also allows convicts to work outside as long they report to the roll-call at 6 am and 7 pm. Phoolchand was not able to get a teaching job due to his criminal background and is forced to work as helper at a medial store  for a meager salary.

He and his brothers were awarded a 14 year sentence in 2013 for the murder of the sarpanch of their village.

Studying at the Kota open jail was a difficult experience for Peeyush Meena. As the jail lights switched off at 10 pm he had to study in the pale light which passed through the window from the main building.

The cell was  too small to accommodate his father when he was studying. So, Phoolchand would wait outside sometimes till as late as 4 am till his son wrapped up his studies.

The effort paid off and Peeyush Meena bagged the 453rd rank among scheduled tribe students.  That should get him a seat in a core branch at either IIT Roorkee or IIT Bhubaneswar.

Only if he can pay the fees.

In a marketing coup, makers of Rajinikanth starrer, Kabali,  have tied up with Air Asia, and painted a huge poster on one of its planes.

Air Asia tweeted photos of plane featuring a huge image of Rajinikanth as Don Kabali.

The aircraft will be reportedly flying across destinations such as Bengaluru, New Delhi, Goa, Pune, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Guwahati, Imphal, Vizag and Kochi.

The Kabali plane, in line with the theme of the movie's hit song Nerupuda, can also be made to glow. Nerupuda means 'it's fire'.

Air Asia has also planned marketing activities to build buzz around the movie.

The tie-up is an attractive proposition for Air Asia as well. Kabali has been shot in Malaysia, its home country, which has a substantial Tamil population.

Going by the responses on Twitter, the plane has already struck a chord with Rajinikanth fans.  They all seem to want to fly in it.

Directed by Pa Ranjith, Kabali has Radhika Apte in the lead, besides Rajinikanth. Music for the film is by Santhosh Narayanan.
