Assam CM Tarun Gogoi took to twitter to complain that PM Modi had made fun of his age during a speech on Sunday. "He has mocked me as an old man, but I have the energy of a young man," Gogoi tweeted. "Even if I attain the age of 100, I will work as a 50-year-old," added another tweet.
Modi  was labouring the point that he had not gone to Assam to fight with Gogoi, but to fight poverty.

Earlier in the day, Modi had addressed an election rally at Rangapara, Assam. He had said Gogoi would touch 90 in a few years and it was in the Indian culture to respect elders.

He was labouring the point that he had not gone to Assam to fight with Gogoi, but to fight poverty.

He was also responding to an earlier comment made by Gogoi, who had said that Modi could not see development in Assam as he had cataract.

For the record Gogoi is 79 and will turn 90 in 11 years.

T20 World commentators have paid a tribute to the the India v Bangladesh match by re-enacting its famous last ball of the last over. Shaun Pollock​, Daren Ganga, Nick Knight and Russell Arnold play the roles of different players in the tense drama in the video below. To recall from the match, Bangladesh needed two runs to win off the last ball.

To recall from the match, Bangladesh needed two runs to win off the last ball.

Hardik Pandya bowled a short length delivery, which Shuvagata Hom slashed and missed. As
Mustafizur Rahman darted across to the other end, Dhoni beat him to the stumps.

Pakistani cricketing legend Wasim Akram  was attacked on live camera when he was taking part in an Aaj Tak programme in Mumbai on Sunday.

Wasim Akram, part of the Aaj Tak panel of experts, was analysing the India Australia T20 World match, when he was attacked.

A group of assailants barged in disrupting telecast and snatching his mike. The video link was snapped but not before alarming visuals showing Wasim Akram  in shock and one of the assailants moving menacingly towards him were aired.

Aaj Tak journalist Vikrant Gupta, who was anchoring the discussion, took note of the incident. Surprisingly, he carried on with the show instead of looking into the assault,

Immediately after the attack he was heard asking if Wasim Akram was ok. In his very next sentence, he reverted back to the discussion on Kohli's batting. He later tweeted saying there was no need to panic; a few people had just objected o the cameras, he said.

The incident took place in Mumbai, a city not known for its hospitality for Pakistani players or artists.

Wasim Akram was speaking at a location outside studio, when he was targeted. No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack so far.

The incident caused outrage on social media with many Indians coming out strongly against it.

Indians and Pakistanis took to social media to express their outrage after cricket legend Wasim Akram was attacked in Mumbai during a live Aaj Tak show. A few unidentified assailants barged in snatching his mike and disrupting the telecast, in a sickening assault that was aired on live TV. Aaj Tak anchor Vikram Gupta tried to play down the incident saying a few people had just objected to the presence of cameras.
Indian Twitter users feel the disgraceful incident has shamed the country.

MoS for Power Piyush Goyal has made a blistering attack on Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa saying he had no way of accessing her. Speaking at the CII Young India meet in New Delhi and responding to a question on power reforms in Tamil Nadu, Piyush Goyal did not hold back. He said Tamil Nadu was “...a state within a state, a part of the country where I cannot reach out to the Chief Minister.”

MoS for Power Piyush Goyal has made a blistering attack on Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa saying he had no way of accessing her.

Speaking at the CII Young India meet in New Delhi and responding to a question on power reforms in Tamil Nadu, Piyush Goyal did not hold back.

He said Tamil Nadu was “...a state within a state, a part of the country where I cannot reach out to the Chief Minister.”

The video below shows him saying he had access to 28 states in this country, but for the 29th state when he wanted to talk to someone, he could not.

"I call up and talk to the Power Minister of the state, and he says he will get back to me after he speaks with Amma,” Piyush Goyal ridiculed.

He also criticised the AIADMK MPs’ performance in the Parliament, who he said wouldn't "open their mouth" unless their script was sanitized by Amma.

He said he had been able to reach out to the Chief Minister only once in he last two years and nothing had come off it.

“I was only able to reach out to the CM once in 22 months and that too through many back channels. She promised to send a team to discuss power sector reforms, and the team met me. But to date they haven’t signed up."

He compared Tamil Nadu's no-show with Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, where Akhlesh Yadav and Nitish Kumar were working with the centre to implement the reforms despite political rivalry.

Piyush Goyal said unless there was a change in government in Tamil Nadu, he would be unable to make a significant impact.

Piyush Goyal's attack on Jayalalithaa  has drawn an angry response from AIADMK denying all his charges. A spokesperson said centre was giving excuses without implementing the suggestions made by Tamil Nadu.

However, opposition  leader Karunanidhi has asked slammed Jayalalithaa  government  over Piyush Goyal's public criticism.

India batter Virat Kohli came out in defence of his former girl friend Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, who was targeted after his match wining knock against Australia on Sunday.

"Shame on blaming and making fun of her when she has no control over what I do with my sport,” he tweeted.

“If anything she has only motivated and given me more positivity, he added.


Anushka Sharma has been attacked viciously in the past whenever Kohli failed to perform. Ironically, on Sunday, she was trolled after Kohli single-handedly took India to semi-final with a superb 82-run knock against Australia.

This time she was targeted for breaking up with Kohli, with many, ironically,  pointing out that his game had improved after she left him.

Kohli’s defence of Anushka went viral but did not stop trolls, who continued to pester her.

Celebratory firing turned into tragedy at a wedding in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, when the groom’s father was accidentally shot dead. A video shared by ANI shows a group of men carelessly test firing their weapons in the Badnagar area to prepare for the wedding procession. A man, later identified as the groom’s father, walks into the frame and collapses after being shot.

Celebratory firing turned into tragedy at a wedding in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, when the groom’s father was accidentally shot dead.

A video shared by ANI shows a group of men carelessly test firing their weapons to prepare for the wedding procession. A man, later identified as the groom’s father, walks into the frame and collapses after being shot.

To add to the horror, some of the men with gun are so engrossed with their weapons, they take some time to realise that a man has been shot dead.

The incident occurred in the Badnagar area of Ujjain and the video has gone viral.

Firing during celebrations such as wedding is a popular though controversial custom in many states of India. Many communities resort to it to signal their dominance in the area at the cost of frequent casualties.

This month in Meerutand Baghpat districts of Uttar Pradesh, a 16-year-old girl was wounded and another man was killed respectively, in celebratory firing.

Last month, an eight-year-old boy lost his life in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh this year when Samajwadi Party workers opened fire to celebrate their victory in a local poll.

The photo was taken in 2003, after the world cup, in which Ashish Nehra, who was then 24, had played.  

Virat Kohli’s coach Raj Kumar Sharma had invited him to his academy and the photo was taken during the visit, says Ashish Nehra.

So, why is Virat Kohli, who was 15, getting the prize.  

Virat Kohli came to limelight in 2002–03 Polly Umrigar Trophy, playing for Delhi. He was the leading run-getter for his team in that tournament with 172 runs at an average of 34.40.

The next year he did even better, becoming the captain of the team and scoring 390 runs in 5 innings at an average of 78.  

That was what possibly got him an prize from a cricketer playing for India.

Bangalore police have arrested Dr NS Shankar, who ploughed his Mercedes Benz C220 into six different vehicles causing four accidents in the Jayanagar area of the city. One person was killed and five others were injured in the horrific serial accident. The CCTV footage below shows the second accident Dr Shankar was involved. His over-speeding Mercedes is seen ramming into a Maruti Suzuki Zen, which in turn hits a Tata Indica cab.

Bangalore police have arrested Dr NS Shankar, who allegedly ploughed his Mercedes Benz C220 into six different vehicles causing four accidents in the Jayanagar area of the city.

One person was killed and five others were injured in the horrific serial accident.

The CCTV footage below shows the second accident Dr Shankar was allegedly involved with. His over-speeding Mercedes is seen ramming into a Maruti Suzuki Zen, which in turn hits a Tata Indica cab.

While both the cars came to a screeching halt, the Mercedes is seen speeding away.

Dr Shankar also allegedly hit a Maruti Suzuki Swift and three two wheelers during his uncontrolled drive.

A few media reports said the doctor was drunk, while his maid who was accompanying him said he had an epileptic seizure.

His car came to a halt finally after hitting an empty house on the side of the road. A large crowd reportedly thrashed and handed him over to the police.

Dr Shankar, 58, an orthopaedic surgeon, runs Siddhartha Clinic in Jayanagar III Block.

As they finish their performance, a woman in a saffron saree barges in and slaps a girl, who was dancing in the front row.

Reports identified the woman as the mother of the girl, who was upset that she had bunked her classes to join the flash mob dancers.

Students said they had taken permission from relevant authorities to stage the performance.

British astronaut Tim Peake has shared a mesmerising time-lapse video of aurora taken from space as ISS spun in its orbit.

ISS flew over the aurora-laden skyline for 45 minutes, which Tim Peake recorded in his camera and compressed into  a 44 second video.

So, what you get is a blaze of greenish light flickering high in the sky to make earth look like an alien planet.

Auroras are natural electrical phenomenon characterised by streaming reddish or greenish light in the sky, especially near the northern or southern poles.

Video: Man tied to train window and thrashed – reportedly made to travel for four hours dangling outside

A passenger was thrashed and left dangling outside a train window last Friday at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. His crime: drinking a few sips of water from a bottle belonging to fellow passengers without seeking permission. His action infuriated three fellow passengers, from Patna, so much they thrashed and tied him to a window from outside.

A passenger was thrashed and left dangling outside a train window last Friday at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

His alleged crime: drinking a few sips of water from a bottle belonging to fellow passengers without seeking permission.

His action infuriated three fellow passengers, from Patna, so much they thrashed and tied him to a window from outside.

The video below shows him stripped to his underwear and tied to the window. The three accused are seen hitting him with a belt.

The incident reportedly occurred on March 25 on-board Patna-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Superfast Express.

The victim, named Sumit, who works in Mumbai, boarded at Jabalpur at around 11 pm and the incident reportedly unfolded soon after that.

Zee News reports that the accused pulled the emergency stop chain to stop the train and dragged Sumit out. That was when they reportedly tied him to a window and thrashed him.

The train driver reportedly was unaware of the incident and started the train again, reports Zee. Sumit reportedly was dangling from the window for the next four hours till the train halted at Itarsi.

It is not clear why the railway officials on-board failed to investigate the incident after the chain was pulled and take appropriate action.

The three men again tried to hit Sumit with their belts, who was saved this time by the passersby.

The accused men, who were on their way to Mumbai to sit for a competitive examination, have been  booked by the Railway Police.

ANI has filed a slightly different account of the story. It says it wa Sumit's father who drank water.

But as the video shows there was horrifying violence on a train and that requires the attention of the senior officials.

Senior journalist Seema Mustafa wrotea small piece in response to his remarks, showing how 1984 riots were also state sponsored.

Mustafa was on Delhiroads in 1984 reporting the Sikh massacre for the Telegraph.

She wrote that anti-Sikh violence was as state-sponsored as the Gujarat riots were. In the standard elements present in rioting - wild rumours, mob frenzy, vanishing act by police, there was little to differentiate between the two events, she said.

Kanhaiya Kumar made it worse by tweeting a silly clarification – the riots were different as they were separated by 18 years, he contended.

He did not address the key point in the PTI report that quoted him saying 1984 riots were not state sponsored. It was also not clear what he wanted to say with the clarification.

Along with Pak pacer Shoaib Akhtar, with whom he shares a crackling chemistry, Virender Sehwag has been commenting for Star sports.

His casual but original one-liners, which express earthy wisdom with hilarious spins, have become viral material.

After India’s sensational last-over one-run win against Bangladesh, Virender Sehwag said due credit should be given to senior player Ashish Nehra whose advise proved to be useful for the rookie Hardik Pandya, who bowled the last over.

As Virender Sehwag put it - Boss ki wife ko, Haathi ke size ko, Aur Nehra Ji ke advice ko, saara Dash salaam Karta hai.

Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi celebrated his younger daughter Srija’s wedding joyously on Monday in Bangalore.

A grainy video shot on a mobile brings out his happiness. He is seen dancing with his elder daughter Sushmitha to a hit Telugu number.

He never accepted Srija’s first wedding to Sirish Bharadwaj in 2007. Though he doted on her immensely, being a regular at her tennis practice, despite his hectic schedule, she eloped with her college mate Sirish and married him.  

Chiranjeevi was so upset he cut off all relations with his daughter.

Srija and Sirish had a daughter but developed differences; she even complained to police accusing him of physical abuse and dowry.

After the couple separated, Chiranjeevi reconciled with his daughter and arranged for her second wedding with family friend’s US-based businessman son, Kalyan.

The wedding was held at farmhouse neat  Bangalore international airport to keep it low key.

Seif El Din Mustafa, the hijacker who seized an Egyptian airliner, has been arrested but not before he agreed to a passenger taking a selfie with him. Mustafa forced the plane to land in Cyprus by threatening the pilot with his suicide belt of explosives. As the day-long drama unfolded to ensure the safety of passengers, one of them seems to have requested a selfie with Mustafa and went on to pose, grinning ear to ear. The photo shows the hijacker also posing for the camera, somewhat grimly.

We are not sure if the photo is authentic; the details of the actual incident, if confirmed, also need to come out.

But social media was out with shouts for the passenger, who had managed to take a one-of-a-kind selfie.

Cyprusofficials have said Mustafa’s hijacking had to do with his wife and was not terror related. They are yet to divulge details.

Pakistan releases confession video of ‘Indian spy’ Kulbhushan Jadhav – ‘I am a Raw agent, training Baloch separatists in terrorism’ (watch)

In a first, Pakistan has released a video making public the ‘confession’ extracted from arrested ‘Indian spy’ Kulbhushan Jadhav. India maintains that Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was arrested in Balochistan on March 24, is a retired Navy man, who has no links to the government now. He has a business in Iran, says India which probably took him to Balochistan, where he was held.

But Pakistanalleges that that Kulbhushan Jadhav was training Balochistan separatists to attack ports in the country.

In the video, which was released by Pakistan’s Inter Services Public Relations, Kulbhushan Jadhav confesses to being a RAW agent, who had entered Balochistan to create unrest.

* Pakistani ports and sensitive installations are a target

* Raw involved in unrest in Balochistan

The video has been edited and at places Kulbhushan Jadhav is shown smiling as he speaks. Indiahas dismissed the video as staged.
