Bharatiya Janata Party MP Satyapal Singh was caught travelling in an even-number vehicle in Delhi on Friday.

Satyapal Singh, who is also the former Police commissioner of Mumbai, was strangely unaware that Delhi had switched to odd/even traffic rule from today.

Or, he was perhaps hoping that he would be able to use his VVIP status to intimidate cops and get away.

A Delhi police constable stopped Satyapal Singh’s vehicle at the India Gate. A Hindustan Times photographer Ravi Choudhary was nearby to click a few memorable photos, which sparked off interest on social media.

While many violators of the new odd/even traffic scheme were fined Rs 2,000, Satyapal Singh was lucky. The Delhipolice constable gave him a leaflet that explained the new rules and let him go without fine.

After retiring from service, Satyapal Singh won 16th Lok Sabha elections from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. As an MP, he is not exempt from Delhi’s Odd/even traffic rule.

Among the Parliament officials only speakers, deputy speakers and leaders of opposition feature in the list of VVIPs exempted from the rule.
