Justice Thakur has been an early supporter of the odd/even rule |
In a huge show of support of support to Delhi's odd/even scheme, Chief Justice of India T S Thakur has been sharing car with brother judge A K Sikri to commute to office.
Both the judges have been carpooling since January 1, when the Delhi's odd/even traffic rule came into effect to help the city combat pollution.
Justice T S Thakur has an odd number car while Justice A K has an even number complement and both the judges live close by, reports The Indian Express.
Supreme Court judges are exempt from the odd/even restriction, but Justice Thakur has decided to set a personal example by following it voluntarily. That should discourage other VIPs such as BJP MP Satyapal Singh, from seeking informal waivers flaunting their exalted status.
Justice Thakur has been an early supporter of the odd/even rule though he has said Delhi should do more to get pollution under control.
It was, in fact, his quick support to the scheme that helped the Delhi government roll it out without much difficulty. Till Justice Thakur came out in support at a media gathering on December 6, Union Home Ministry was non-committal and Police Commissioner Bassi had said there was not enough staff to enforce it.
