Media reports say he has announced that he would join a dharna organised by Dalit Adivasi Forum (DAF) on January 11 in
Thete reportedly faces a case in connection with alleged illegal disposal of land in Ujjain , where he worked as an additional commissioner two years ago. The government has given permission to prosecute him.
Thete says charges against him are an upper castes conspiracy and has written protest letters to the chief minister and the chief secretary.
Indian Express quoted DAF leader Mohan Patil saying complaints were pending against 18 upper caste IAS and IPS officers in MP but sanction to prosecute was given only in Thete’s case.
Thete, an officer of 1993 batch, had been suspended in 2002 after he was allegedly caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. He was serving as director of employment and training.
He challenged his suspension successfully and got reinstated in 2011. Thete then threatened to immolate himself if he was not promoted on par with his batch mates.
