Swapan Dasgupta also reiterates BJP charge that Nehru was biased against Hinduism |
Journalist and Nehru critic Swapan Dasgupta may be take over as the next Director of the Nehru Memorial Museum & Library (NMML) in New Delhi.
NMML is a key academic institution that is entrusted with the task of propagating the legacy of India's first prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
Dasgupta, who is a BJP ideologue and currently a member of the NMML Society, told Indian Express that he was not aware of the development.
Noted academic Mahesh Rangarajan quit as NMML Director last year after his appointment by the previous UPA regime was described as “unethical and illegal” by union culture minister Mahesh Sharma.
BJP, which disagrees with Nehruvian world view, has a controversial plan to revamp NMML, a move that has drawn criticism.
Swapan Dasgupta, who was also a member of Nehru 125th year celebration committee, has been staunch critic of Nehru.
He sees Nehru as man who was driven by prejudices, and despite a long reign, left behind the country poorer with more corruption and unemployment.
He believes that India has been too kind to Nehru and said it is time to take the mythology out of history.
Swapan Dasgupta also reiterates BJP charge that Nehru was biased against Hinduism and accorded special status to minorities at the cost of the majority religion of the country.
