Salman Khan’s father, writer Salim Khan, has reminded his detractors that his roots are actually in Afghanistan; so if they want him to leave India, they should ask him to go there rather than Pakistan.
Actor Salman Khan came under severe criticism from all quarters in late July for his tweets that it was Tiger Memon who should actually be put to gallows, not Yakub Memon.
Persuaded by his father, he soon retracted, apologised and even deleted his tweets.
Salim Khan’s defense of his son soon resulted in the usual – critics and protesters asking him to leave India and go to Pakistan.
Mid Day reports that during an education event Salim Khan reminded the protesters who had gathered that his ancestors had migrated from Afghanistan in pursuit of better education and life. They settled in Indore, Madhya Pradesh and later migrated to Mumbai. Salim Khan was the fourth generation of his family living in India.
With that, perhaps with gentle sarcasm, he corrected them that they should actually ask him to leave for Afghanistan.
It is not just with Salman Khan, Afghanistan's connection with Bollywood runs deep.
Aamir Khan's ancestors came from Heart and settled in Mumbai. Aamir is related to Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan and Pakistani singer-actor, Ali Zafar.
Shah Rukh Khan's paternal grandfather came from Afghanistan to settle in Delhi.
Dilip Kumar, Madhubala, Kadar Khan, Amjad Khan, Farah Khan, Kabir Khan, are among those who can boats of Afghan connection.
