Former diplomat T P Sreenivasan was manhandled by SFI activists at Kovalam on Friday.
The SFI activists were protesting against the Global Education meet at the Leela Convention centre saying it was commercialising education.
Sreenivasan, who is Vice Chairman of Kerala State Higher Education Council, came out to speak to them.
A video by Asianet News shows SFI activists surrounding the former top diplomat and pushing him around. He manages to walk to safety towards a group of policemen.
But in the presence of the policemen, an activist gets behind Sreenivasan and delivers a stinging slap.
Sreenivasan falls down and is helped to his feet by an unidentified individual.
CPI(M) district secretary Kadakampally Surendran apologised to Sreenivasan on behalf of the students. He also said Sreenivasan should not have gone to speak to the students as the situation was tense, reports PTI.
