The poor kid, who was seen playing football wearing a plastic bag jersey, has been identified as Murtaza Ahmadi, 5, from Ghazni near Kabul.

Son of a poor farmer, Murtaza is a huge Messi fan.

As his father could not afford to buy a jersey for him, his elder brother Homayoun, 15, made it from discarded grocery bags and scrawled Messi on it.

Photos of Murtaza playing with a punctured ball wearing the plastic bag jersey went viral stirring emotions around the world.

A global hunt to locate the boy began, which finally hit gold near Kabul. The Daily Telegraph has uploaded a video showing Murtaza playing at his impoverished neighbourhood.

A spokesperson for Lionel Messi has said that the Barcelona star wants to meet with his young Afghan fan and do something for him.
