Mahanama Express, the first train in the country to use coaches with modern amenities, has fallen victim to passengers lack of civic sense.
The train, which became operational just a week ago, has been completely defaced provoking widespread anger and disgust.
Mahanama Express comes equipped with modern facilities such as bio toilets, passenger address system, GPS information and LED screens. It has bright and aesthetic interiors, which are a welcome relief from the dreary interiors of the regular trains.
Modi had flagged off the train, which runs between Varanasi and Delhi via Lucknow , on January 22. It started its thrice-a-week run on January 25.
On January 29, the first reports surfaced stating that toiletries and water taps had gone missing from Mahanama Express.
On Saturday, Dainik Bhaskar carried a photo feature of how passengers had turned it into a stinky mess in just seven days.
The photos showed overflowing sinks, dirty floors with leftover food, beer bottles and groundnut shells and broken equipment.
