CPI general secretary Raja's daughter Aparajita is among 20 suspect students reportedly identified by Delhi police for shouting anti-India slogans.
"The police have released a list of 20 people, including CPI general secretary D Raja's daughter, Aparajita," CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said on Saturday.
The spotlight trained on Aparajita after BJP MP Mahesh Giri alleged that she was present during the anti-India protest in JNU and was raising slogans.
He also released a video showing her in the protest and shouting anti-ABVP not anti-India slogans.
The Telegraph reported that Aparajita was part of the Left contingent that shielded the Kashmir protesters from the ABVP.
D Raja, defended his daughter, saying questioning her patriotism was madness.
Yechury along with D Raja and JD (U) general secretary KC Tyagi met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday to stop the harassment of students and seek release of JNU students union leader Kanhaiya Kumar, a member of CPI's student wing All India Student Federation.
Aparajita, an AISF leader, had unsuccessfully contested for the post of Delhi University Students Union president in 2010.
