Kolkata's favourite daily The Telegraphis leading the critical coverage of the exploding controversy in JNU.
JNU, which stands accused of anti-national behaviour by the ruling BJP, enjoys immense support in the media as many of its left-leaning alumni work in responsible positions in the industry.
Several publications have covered the controversy prominently and critically, though none with more severity than The Telegraph.
Its page one colourful visuals have made a splash – thrice in as many days.
The day the police entered the JNU campus to pick up president Kanhaiya Kumar, The Telegraph made a frontal attack on Union HRD minister Smriti Irani.
It showed her in a khaki uniform and headlinedthe story Kyunki mantriji kabhi student nahi thi –a dig at her lack of academic credentials.

The next day featured Smriti Irani’s boss Modi kicking off Make In India week. It noted that four rights had been Made In India under Modi – Right to assault and abuse others, to call JNU students prostitutes, to suppress dissent and to wish Afghan President on his birthday, months in advance as Modi had done.
The issue which hit the stand this morning had a single word headline – Patriot, with the letters r i o t spelt in red colour.
The story was on Delhi BJP MLA O P Sharma, who had beaten up a CPI leader alleging he had shouted pro-Pakistani slogans.
