When model turned TV celebrity Padma Lakshmi became pregnant in 2009, she was embarrassed.
She did not know who the father was.
The anecdote is just one of the slices of her life, Padma has shared wit brutal honesty in her forthcoming book 'Love, Loss and What We Ate'.
After the marriage with writer Salman Rushdi collapsed, she was not willing to commit and dated two men simultaneously - billionaire Teddy Forstmann and Adam Dell, brother of tech entrepreneur Michael.
Padma tells People magazine that she was open about her relationships and both the men knew about the existence of the other. But pregnancy was a ticklish issue.
She persuaded Forstmann to take a paternity test and that showed that he was not the father.
But Forstmann stood by her and was there in the hospital room when her daughter
"He was resolute in making sure I wasn't alone," she says. "This wasn't his child and he held my hand – and he held it very publicly," she tells People.
She also talks about the initial blissfully married days with writer Salman Rusdhie turning tense. He was insensitive enough to seek sex when she was suffering from severe endometriosis.
