Hundreds of fish have choked to death at Bangalore’s Ulsoor lake after sewage water flowed in and reduced oxygen level in the water.

Local residents said sewage water had been flowing into the lake due to a breach in the bund, reports PTI. Though they had reportedly alerted the officials no action followed.

Fish kills in Bangalorelakes are a common phenomena as sewage water usually finds its way into them. Officials say they treat the sewage before it mixes up with the lake water.

Faulty treatment and sudden increase in the inflow periodically lead to dead fish floating up in massive numbers and raising a stink.

Before Ulsoor, Bangalore’s Bellandur lake had drawn attention when the toxic chemicals that had flown into it had caught fire.
