In 2006, Kangana Raut’s sister Rangoli was attacked with acid.

A decade later, after the best treatment money can buy, she has managed to put the traumatic incident behind.

In an interview with PinkyVilla the sisters recall the incident and explain how it scarred them for life.

Rangoli was 23, in college, studying microbiology, when a man who obsessed over her, splashed her with acid. She did not even know him.

Her face was disfigured, food and wind pipes were severely damaged.

She endured 57 surgeries, each physically excruciating and mentally torturous, to improve her condition.

She didn’t have courage to face a mirror for three months. Every time their parents looked at her, they physically fainted.

Full recovery for Rangoli means, she has to manage with one ear, a 90% vision loss in one eye and a dysfunctional breast.

The acid attack scarred her in other ways.

She as engaged to an Airforce officer, who fled after the attack. Later, she fell in love with a childhood friend, a relationship that also eventually broke up.

Kangana says Rangoli is very tough. The day her second relationship ended, both went out for dinner chatted and laughed about the restaurant’s name.

But the actress remains bitter. She told PinkVilla that the man, who threw acid on Rangoli was out of jail after just two years, even before his trial started.
