When in Rome do what Romans do - seems to be the motto of Apple CEO Tim Cook, who is on a visit to India.
He began trending on Wednesday morning following a visit to Mumbai's popular divinity point, Siddhivinayak temple. Indian Express published a photo of him with tilak on forehead and a garland around the neck, both rich symbols of Hindu worship.
Tim Cook came out as a gay saying being one was a god's gift. But there is nothing more to his religious beliefs, let alone Hinduism, and he may actually like to get listed as an atheist.
So, why the visit to the Siddhivinayak temple temple? It seems to have been more of a cultural trip, to get a flavour of local life. Tim Cook was in China before landing in India and in Beijing he famously took a taxi.
It may have been more than a passing fancy in Beijing as Apple has invested a billion dollars in China's Uber.
Indian Express reports that Tim Cook also met Reliance scion Akash Ambani at the Siddhivinayak temple. So, even this may have been more than a passing fancy.
In the rarefied atmosphere of US tech industry, Hinduism has a trickle of an influence. Both Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg came to India exploring its spirituality before embarking upon their entrepreneurial adventure.
Tim Cook, who is under severe pressure to reinvent Apple, may be following their footsteps.
