The Hansal Mehta-Kangana Ranaut combination will bring alive the real-life crime story of Sandeep Kaur, also known as Bombshell Bandit, who is serving a five plus year sentence in the US for a string of bank robberies.
Sandeep Kaur robbed four banks in 2015 taking away cash amounting to $40,000 before she was caught by FBI.
The movie inspired to be called Simran will have Kangana playing the title role and would be directed by Aligarh director Hansal Mehta.
It is scheduled to be shot over 70 days in Atlanta, San Francisco, San Jose and Las Vegas.
Kangana tells Pune Mirror that story is inspired by real-life incidents related to Sandeep Kaur.
Sandeep Kaur, a Sikh woman came to be known as 'Bombshell Bandit' for a spate of robberies in the states of Utah, Arizona and California last year.
She robbed banks without carrying any weapons and with just a note sayign she was carrying a bomb and would explode it, if money was not handed over.
She looted up to $40,000 from three banks and was caught while attempting to rob the US Bank in St George in Utah last July.
The highlight of her short criminal life was a movie-like high-speed chase in Nevada and an hour-long stand-off which ended in her capture.
Sandeep Kaur grew up in a 'traditional Sikh family', and graduated from a nursing school when she was 19. She built an admirable work record working as a professional nurse in California.
She fell out with her family refusing to get into an arranged marriage and wedded her boyfriend, only to be abused.
She also got addicted to gambling in Las Vegas and landed herself in debt, which forced her to start robbing banks.
Kangana's movie Simran takes a slightly different route, however.
The protagonist is an ambitious Gujarati girl, who sets out to fulfill her mother's dream, but gets into trouble and loses everything.
