Priyanka Chaturvedi, a career woman who became a Congress spokesperson – trolls are just a professional hazard for this first generation politician

Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi, who has just had a twitter fight with Smriti Irani, has had a running battle with trolls.

Priyanka Chaturvedi complained in a blogon NDTV that she was recently threatened with "rape and death like Nirbhaya" for objecting to a BJP spokesperson's use of innuendo and insinuation to silence her on a TV debate.

She has lodged a complaint and the Mumbai Police have been investigating the case to book the man.

Priyanka Chaturvedi says trolls would not succeed in silencing her through intimidation and adds that she had earlier also approached cops to take action on a Twitter handle that used to stalk her timeline.

Two years ago in an interview with DNA, Priyanka Chaturvedi had said that she was subjected to sexist remarks and abuses that targeted her family as well. Though she used to get worked up at times, she had realised that it was part of the deal of being in politics, she had noted.

An avid reader and writer, Priyanka Chaturvedi is a quick learner and a first generation politician, who has risen quickly in politics.  

A graduate in Commerce from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics she quit her corporate job as a media recruitment consultant to join politics.

The Mumbai attack were a turning point which prodded her towards a public life. Se had to persuade her family and friends to drop their reservations about her career shift.

Priyanka Chaturvedi is married and has two children.
