Police usually urge citizens not to take law into their hands. But Haryana DGP K P Singh does not believe in that.
In a public function, he recently said law gave the common man right to take life of a criminal to stop crime. K P Singh listed three categories of crimes - insulting a woman, setting house to a fire and attempt to murder - while advocating his line on citizen policing.
In the video clip, which is available, it is not clear, if the right to kill is limited to these crimes or extend to other types of illegal acts a swell.
KP Singh, who has written three books on policing in the country, took charge as Haryana police head last month. The Khattar government shunted out Yashpal Singhal after jat riots and brought in KP Singh, a 1985 batch officer from Uttar Pradesh.
