Media has gone to town with a story on Bihar Arts topper Ruby Ray, who allegedly said political science is about cooking. A video published by India Today shows the reporter murmuring a question, to which the nervous girl replies saying, "It is about cooking." It is further pointed out that she faltered in her pronunciation as well calling political science 'prodgical science’. The India Today report has been picked up by others, who are sharing the same outrage on the decline of standards, in India’s colleges.
If it is of such national importance to make fun of Ruby Ray, why not press the
reporter to ask a few more questions on other subjects (video below)

Media has gone to town with a story on Bihar Arts topper, Ruby Ray, who allegedly said political science is about cooking.

There are many things wrong with India Today report.  It says Ruby Ray is a topper in political science, who scored 444 out of 500. So, do we assume that she wrote several papers in the same subject amounting to 500 marks and scored 444 out of them.

There is no mention of in which exam Ruby Ray topped  - was it 10th, 12th or graduation or in something else.

Here are some facts to complete the reporting here.

Bihar intermediate arts(12th standard – arts stream)results were announced last Saturday. About 5.1 lakh students appeared in the exam and 2.8 lakh of them passed.

Rubi Ray of VR College, Kiratpur, Vaishali, topped the chart by obtaining 444 out of 500. This has been reported in several newspapers.

Ruby Ray is a topper in Arts, and not just political science.

Did she actually study political science as one of the subjects, we do not know? Did she understand what the reporter was asking? Was she too nervous to give a coherent response?

If it is of such national importance to make fun of Ruby Ray, why not press the reporter to ask a few more questions on other subjects. Why stick to one gem and go viral with that.

Many also suggested that Ruby Ray had come on top because of exam malpractices, which Bihar is notorious for. Where’s your proof?

Bihar officials seem to have a made a sincere effort to crackdown on malpractices. The pass percentage has come down by 20% this year.  About 56.73% of the students passed the examination this year, as compared to 86.47% last year.

And on how Ruby Ray pronounces political science, it is none of anyone’s business.
