A team of visiting panchayat heads brought a gift for union minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore  - cloth to tie a Rajasthani pagari.

A delightful video from ANI shows the junior central minister for information folding it deftly with his hands and building layers of it atop his head.

A former Army officer, and a  silver medallist in 2004 Olympics, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore is from Jaisalmer and he knew how to rise to the occasion, when the present was handed over.

As he tweeted later it takes hours of practice to tie a safa, a style of Rajasthani pagari.  He also mentioned that the longest pagari he has tied was from a 150 meter cloth.

Rajasthani pagaris vary in style, colour and size. They also usually indicate a wearer's social class, caste and region.

If you have ever wondered why Rajasthani pagaris are so huge, it is because they offer a practical value in the desert climate of the state.

They offer protection from sun, help in filtering dirty water or even draw it from wells.
