Social media outrage followed an extremely disturbing video, which showed a godman handling a baby violently.
The video titled Godman swings baby like a ragdoll was shared by a Facebook group Indian Atheists on Thursday.
The cross-dressing godman, in a saree and shirt, is seen dancing energetically to a religious song playing in the background. He is holding the newborn baby in one hand, over his head, and goes on to swing it in full circles.
He is surrounded by devotees, presumably including the baby’s parents, who are clapping their hands to the music.
The admin of Indian Atheists said the video had been sent by a friend a few days ago. The group seems to have deliberated before posting it as it has extremely disturbing content. Many viewers wanted the video to be taken down.
The admin did not disclose the identity of the godman or where the video was shot it, but noted that legal proceedings have been initiated him.

In the comments section it was pointed out that the baby faced the risk of Abusive head trauma or Shaken Baby Syndrome. Due to the violent shaking, the baby could have suffered subdural hematoma, retinal bleeding and swelling of the brain.
The trauma could result in death or in life-long brain damage causing permanent disabilities such as blindness, cognitive and motor function impairments.
