JD(S) leader speaks to Times Now on the Rajya Sabha seats for sale show (video below) |
Times Now News Hour show ran a sting on Rajya Sabha seats for for sale in Karnataka on Thursday night.
It is no secret that money bags buy their way to Rajya Sabha and in the coming election Karnataka makes for an interesting case study. JD(S) has 40 MLAs and is short of five MLAs to elect a Rajya Sabha member.
The party is also fragmented with a splinter group possibly aligning with the Congress.
The ruling Congress with 122 MLAs can elect two seats. It is hunting for 13 more MLAs to bag a third Rajya Sabha seat.
The scenario is tailor-made for cash-for-votes conspiracies and Times Now steps in with candid camera to sting. It interviews several key players JD(S) candidate Farooq, Congress third candidate K C RamaMurthy, party leaders of Congress and JD(S) and a few independents.
If you expected to see anyone counting money a la Bangaru Laxman in the Tehelka sting, you will be disappointed.
What you get to hear is several of them saying Congress is promising development funds for non-party MLAs up to Rs 100 crore to develop their constituency.
