Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and Bihar Education Minister Ashok Choudhary were locked in a Twitter battle after the Congress leader addressed her as "dear".

Choudhary in a tweet on Tuesday referred to the Human Resources Development(HRD) minister as ‘Dear Smriti Irani ji’ and said that rather than focus on politics, she should pay attention to the New Education Policy (NEP).

Irani, who is currently touring Bihar, took objection and asked Choudhary since when had he begun to address women as "dear".

Choudhary, a PhD holder and an articulate minister, responded that it was "Not to disrespect but educate... Professional emails start with "dear"."

The war of words continuedfor the good part of Tuesday with both of them challenging each other on a host of issues.

Twitter trolls also joined in and went after Smriti Irani and made her trend for long.
