Science video: In Mexico, volcano Popocatépetl erupts in spectacular beauty – spits gas and ash 1,500 meters above the crater

Popocatépetl, an active volcano in Mexico, has blown its fuse and spewing gas and ashes.   A video recorded on July 3, shows its eruptions reaching a height of 1,500 meters above the crater. Then there was the wind blowing gas and ashes toward the northwest.

Popocatépetl, an active volcano in Mexico, has blown its fuse and spewing gas and ashes.

A video recorded on July 3, shows its eruptions reaching a height of 1,500 meters above the crater. Then there was the wind blowing gas and ashes toward the northwest.

Popocatépetl, 70 km southeast of Mexico City, is the most active volcano in Mexico, that has had more than 15 major eruptions since the arrival of the Spanish in 1519.

A major eruption occurred in 1947 and Popocatépetl has most recently smouldered in the months of March and April.

At 17,802 ft, Popocatépetl is also the second highest peak in Mexico, after Citlaltépetl.
