UPSC topper from Kashmir Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan fails to get home cadre - happy to work in Rajasthan

Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan, who stood second in the civil service exam  this year has been allotted Rajasthan, instead of Jammu and Kashmir, the state he hails from.  Cadre is allotted according  to preference and rank, and IAS toppers are usually assured of getting the state of their choice, which in most cases happens to be where they come from.  Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan, who hails from Devipora-Mattan village in Anantnag district, had also opted for his home state J & K.

Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan, who stood second in the civil service exam  this year has been allotted Rajasthan, instead of Jammu and Kashmir, the state he hails from.

Cadre is allotted according  to preference and rank, and IAS toppers are usually assured of getting the state of their choice, which in most cases happens to be where they come from.

Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan, who hails from Devipora-Mattan village in Anantnag district, had also opted for his home state J & K.

But he was allotted Rajasthan as there was no vacancy in J & K, reports The Times of India.

The young officer said he would be happy to work there. He told TOI that he has has known Rajasthan, which is close to J&K.

Delhi girl Tina Dabi, who stood first in the UPSC exam, has opted for Haryana.
