On Tuesday morning, Anurag Kashyap posted a picture of his bandaged eye on Twitter and said that’s what you get if you get into a fight with a mixed martial arts fighter.
So, several publications, including the stalwarts named above, churned out sympathetic reports without getting any detail or even verifying it.
A Bollywood site Pink Villa even published a get-well message to Anurag Kashyap.
Anurag Kashyap, later tweeted again, and said he had won a bet. He was expecting the media to publish the story without verifying and that’s what some of them did. The photo, he revealed, was just a prosthetics test.
After the disclosure, NDTVdeleted the story without any explanation, while ZeeNewsand India TV are sticking on to their early versions at the time of this report - 5.15 am, India Time.
Deccan Chronicle also seemed to have fallen for it and but updated the report later.
