Mumbai police say Sheena was Indrani Mukerjea’s daughter not sister

NewsCrunch is revising its earlier report in which it had sounded skeptical about the claim that Sheena Bora was Indrani Mukerjea’s daughter and not sister.

As we had noted it was The Telegraph, which had first reported that Sheena Bora was Indrani Mukerjea's daughter, quoting a family friend. The newspaper said it also spoke to four other friends, "who echoed the family friend."

We were a little skeptical. The Mukerjea couple had always maintained that they had three children - two sons from Peter’s first marriage and a daughter from Indrani’s first marriage.


As it has surfaced, Indrani married Sanjay Khanna after her marriage with a Guwahati-based tea magnate broke down. She had two children, Sheena and Mikhail from her first marriage, who were raised by their maternal grandparents.

Here is a quick summary of the new information that is based on what the police and Peter have said.

1) Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria said Sheena was Indrani’s daughter from her previous marriage and not her sister, reports The Hindustan Times.

2) Peter says Sheena Bora had an affair with his son Rahul Mukherjea. He had no problem as both were adults, Indrani opposed it.

3) Indrani told Peter that Sheena was her sister. Peter says he had no clue that Sheena was actually Indrani's daughter from her earlier marriage,

4) Sheena Bora's brother Mikhail Bora told TV channels that Sheena was Indrani's daughter and not sister.  He has called for DNA tests to establish the truth.

5) Indrani maintained that Sheena was studying in the US. She even showed pictures of Sheena at a Diwali function.
