Three stray dogs were killed and hung barbarically on an electric pole on Tuesday at Kathirur village in Kannur district of Kerala.
The incident acquired a quick political colour as Tuesday also happens to be the death anniversary of RSS activist Manoj, who was murdered a year ago.
BJP and RSS cadre, who are observing the death anniversary of Manoj, saw the dog carcasses as a message from CPI(M) workers.
The dog carcasses triggered tension in the district, which had seen clashes between BJP and CPI (M) workers on Sunday. RSS leaders have blamed CPI(M) for instigating violence against BJP-RSS workers, a charge that has been denied.
The police removed the dog carcasses and brought the situation under control.
