Punjab police fail to rise to the occasion at Dinanagar (video below) |
The terror attack on a police station in Gurdaspur has killed at least five, including a Superintendent of Police.
The terrorists in Army uniform, came from across the border and started attacking random targets before landing on a police station at Dinanagar.
An India News Hour video which captures the early response of the local policemen shows how unprepared they were to face a crisis like this. They are gathering around the police station, chatting casually and even breaking into an occasional smile.
As the media arrives, a journalist walks with the cops, sharing a joke and a hi-five.
Very few of the police are in any battle gear.
The baffling lack of alarm is shared by curious civilians, who try to peep over the compound to get a better view of the holed-up terrorists.
They are joined by more policemen; one of them with a stunning pot belly is carrying a pistol. Mind you, you can hear gunshots all along.
