Amorphophallus Titanum, the world’s largest flower has bloomed in Jindai Botinaical Gardens in Chofu, Japan, after five long years.
The garden officials were forced to extend opening hours to manage the crowd, which came to enjoy the rare sight.
Amorphophallus Titanum or Titan Arum blooms just a few times in its four-decade life span. Different flowers bloom at different frequencies, with some taking even up to 10 years to bloom. The time-lapse video below compresses the long-drawn blooming process into a four minute capsule.
One of the most ancient of the flowers, Amorphophallus Titanum can grow up to 10 feet.
It also produces a foul odour of rotting meat to attract pollinators such as flies and, is hence, called the corpse flower as well.
