Gurdaspur Superintendent of Police Baljit Singh’s death has come as a cruel blow to his family which is aghast that three of them have died at the hands of terrorists.
Baljit Singh was shot dead by three terrorists at Dinapur on Monday, when he was leading the charge against them.
Amar Singh, his paternal uncle, from Dandowal village in Jalandhar village, is particularly devastated. In the last four decades he had lost his brother ASI Achhar Singh -- Baljit Singh's father -- and own son Sepoy Manpreet Singh as well to terrorists.
Achhar Singh died in 1984 at an accident engineered by terrorists in Moga. Sepoy Manpreet Singh fell to terrorists’ bullets at Tarn Taran in 1991 just after joining the service.
“It seems like terrorism has come haunting us back again. It took us years to revive from those horrendous days. It is almost like a history repeating in our family,” Amar Singh was quoted by The Tribune saying.
Monday was a traumatic experience for Baljit Singh family as the events unfolded right before their eyes. After he rushed to the Dinapur police station, his worried wife called him. He told her curtly not to disturb him till the terrorists were dead. They stayed glued to the TV, which flashed that he had been killed just before 1 pm.
