AajTak fired a stringer on Wednesday after a video, which caught a man trying to doctor a story holding Aaj Tak mike, went viral.
The video showed the man trying to coach the boy, who had been kicked in the head by the MP Minister Kusum Mehdele, recently.
A statement from Aaj Tak said the man in the video was neither a reporter nor a stringer of the news network. It implied that the man interacting with the child was the son of its stringer.
The statement, tweeted by Aaj Tak managing editor Rahul Kanwal, said the stringer's contract had been terminate with immediate effect for acting out of his brief and involving his son.
Kusum Mehdele had controversially kicked a boy who had tried to beg some money from her at Panna. The Aaj Tak stringer or his son seems to have traced the boy and spoken to him. When the man in the video found that the boy was unable to speak effectively, he gave him a few lines to speak out.
Aaj Tak stated it did not use the footage as it did not meet its editorial standards. But for many on social media the leaked footage became proof of how media cooks news.
