Sikh activists have released a vintage video of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi making his infamous earth-shakes-when-big-tree-falls speech.

Speaking at the Boat Club on November 19, 1984, Rajiv Gandhi made controversial remarks on the assassination of Indira Gandhi and the anti-sikh riots that followed.

Indira Gandhi was killed by her Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1985, and over 2,700 Sikhs were massacred in the aftermath.

The newly appointed PM Rajiv Gandhi without naming Sikhs says everyone knew the forces that wanted to break up India. He assured the cheering audience that the attempt would not succeed.

Speaking specifically on anti-Sikh riots, he says, when a big tree falls the earth shakes, possibly suggesting that they were a natural response to the murder.

Sikh riots' victims activist H S Phoolka released the video on Thursday. He said Rajiv Gandhi should be stripped of Bharat Ratna award as he had "justified" the killings in 1984 carnage,

He also said the video has been "deleted" from the records and archives of Doordarshan.
