Kerala's NRI business magnate Ravi Pillai is reportedly spending Rs 55 crore on marriage of his daughter, Dr Arathi, who weds Dr Adithya Vishnu in Kollam on Thursday.
Pillai, the Chairman and Managing Director of R P Group of Companies, has been reluctant to disclose the expenditure on the lavish event.
The Times of India, which estimated the figure, also said the sum includes Rs 10 crore being spent on charity. The bulk of the expenditure would have been incurred on spectacular sets, that have come up at Asramam ground in Kollam, and on 30,000 guests that include senior politicians, Gulf royalty, top CEOs and ambassadors. The sets have been designed by Sabu Cyril, art director of Bahubali.
With an estimated worth of 2.8 billion, Ravi Pillai, RP Group has over 80,000 employees across 26 companies in construction, infrastructure development, mining and education.
