For the first time in its history of 137 years, The Hindu failed to print its edition in Chennai due to floods.

The newspaper has its main printing facility at Maraimalai Nagar, a satellite town of Chennai, which also hosts other industrial facilities belonging to Infosys, BMW and Ford.

The paper's publisher N Murali told BBC that the edition had to be suspended as workers failed to reach the plant.

The Hindu, one of the oldest newspapers of the country, is being published continuously since 1878.

Though other newspapers like the Times of India, the Deccan Chronicle and the New Indian Express were printed, their copies were stranded due to overflowing streets.
