The Babri Mosque was destroyed on December 6, 1992 in Ayodhya despite BJP leaders assuring the Supreme Court that it would not be harmed.
More than 2000 Muslims were killed in the riots that followed in many major Indian cities including Mumbai and Delhi.

It took place at a time prior to the arrival of 24/7 TV. There are no live videos of the mosque being torn down.
