Kailash Surendranath, an ad filmmaker, became famous in 1988, after he produced the legendary Mile Sur Mera Tumhara song.
But he was destined to become more famous as the man, who gave Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, his first break.

In an interview with Indian Express, Kailash walks back to the moment where Salman Khan’s journey started.
Kailash was looking for actors for an advertisement of Campa Cola, which was to be shot underwater in
Top models like Ayesha (Jackie Shroff’s wife) and his wife Arti had been shortlisted and they were looking for a male model.
Salman was a champion swimmer in his school and was being groomed as a national level swimming prospect. He used to practice at Hotel Sea Rock at Bandra regularly.
Arti saw Salman, who was just 15, diving at one end of the pool, swimming underwater and emerging out at the other end.
Impressed, Arti recommended Salman to Kailash, who agreed to meet him.
He was apprehensive that Salman was just a kid, till the wannabe model removed his shirt to reveal a swimmer’s body with well-cut muscles.

He also met his first love Sangeeta Bijlani during a shoot; she was then a super model, who was paid five times Salman’s fee, Kailash tells Indian Express.
Salman recalled in 2013, during a chat with Koffee with Karan, how Kailash had helped him come out of depression when he was going through a breakup.
