Upset over the law and order situation in the state Bihar CM Nitish Kumar threw out 9 IPS officers from a meeting on Monday.
But on the same day, another engineer was found murdered in Vaishali district and a businessman was shot dead Muzaffarpur.
The two murders follow the killing of two engineers of a road construction company that had not paid up extortion money demanded by a gang operating in Darbhanga.
The Monday's 11 am meeting had been convened by the home department, which had invited all senor IPS officers of the state, to make a long-term vision plan for the state.
An angry Nitish Kumar walked in and asked DGP P K Thakur to join him for a private meeting.
After sometime a grim Thakur came out and asked 10 officers to leave the meeting.
The humiliated officers were baffled as the meeting had not been called to discuss law and order; but that was Nitish's way of sending a strong message about his unhappiness with the department.
The officers left the meeting but stayed in the building to be available if they were needed. There is no report on what transpired at the meeting.
The Telegraph gives a list of offices, who were evicted from the meeting:
DG level officers K.S. Dwivedi, A.K. Upadhyaya, and P.N. Rai
Additional Director Generals - Kumar Rajesh Chandra, Gupteshwar Pandey,
Inspector Generals - Pankaj Darad, Amit Kumar, A.K. Ambedkar, Ajitabh Kumar and Sunil Kumar.
"This was unimaginable and unprecedented," a senior police officer told the newspaper.
Nitish who prides himself in his professional conduct has been known to rebuke officers in public but never goes to the extent of throwing them out of meetings.
It is taken as extremely humiliating for a senior officer to be asked to leave a meeting.
Haryana Minister Anil Vij figured in a controversy last month when he asked a young IPS officer Sangeeta Kalia to leave a meeting, only to be defied.
