Popular TV actress Smita Bansal and her family have been accused of dowry harassment and domestic violence.

A complaint has been lodged at the Mahila Thana in Gurgaon by the actress’s sister-in-law Megha Gupta, who separated from her husband this year.

Gupta has reportedly accused Smita's brother and father of forcing her to take up a job and taking Rs. 50 lakh from her, say media reports.

Smita has also been accused of wearing her jewellery at a wedding in Jaipur without her permission.

Megha and Smita's brother Saurabh married in 2009 and were living in London.

The couple developed differences and Megha returned to her mother's house in Gurgaon this year. Saurabh had filed for divorce for a formal separation.

Smita's actor and director husband Ankush Mohla told The Times of India that they had come to know of the development only through media.  The police are yet to get in touch with the family, he said.

Smita Bansal and Ankush Mohla quit hit TV serial Balika Vadhu in 2014 after six successful years. The show turned them into household names.
