Additional Chief Secretary-rank IAS officer of Rajasthan Umrao Salodiya announced that he had converted to Islam on Thursday.
He said he became a Muslim by reading "Kalma" in a masjid and changing his name to Umrao Khan.
Umrao Salodiya, who is currently the chairman of RSRTC, has been an Additional Chief Secretary rank officer for four years.
He says he was overlooked for promotion as chief secretary as he was a Scheduled Caste member and has applied for voluntary retirement. Umrao Salodia, a 1978 batch IAS officer is due for retirement in due June, 2016.
He was upset that the Raje government gave incumbent Chief Secretary C S Rajan, who was to retire today, a three month extension.
In a letter to Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Salodia said he had been denied the chance to become first SC/ST officer to become the Chief Secretary.
Media reports say Vasundhara Raje was not keen on Umrao Salodiya as there is an ongoing corruption case against him.
