A new commercial by New Balance shoes shows dreaded fast bowler Dale Steyn trying to match the fitness level of a toddler with three months walking experience and losing badly.

He spends a day mirroring the baby - eating and drinking what it does and then doing what it does.

The day starts with a nutritious breakfast - water egg and biscuit blended - and then it is time for action. Crawl around, walk, get down, get up, play with toys - essentially non-stop movement till it is nap time.

After an hour's of sleep the baby is ready for some serious action again - crawling, walking, getting up and down, with Steyn tailing it non-stop.

Towards the end of the day Steyn is so beat, he would rather take on the likes of  Sachin Tendulkar than the baby. As he slumps on his couch, the baby is seen still pushing.

The video is adorable but the message is unmistakable. Keep pushing, be always in beta, keep evolving - juts like a baby.

Great concept, New Balance has pulled it off.

Indian boxer Vijender Singh made an impressive professional debut by mercilessly demolishing Britain's Sonny Whiting on Saturday.

Enjoy the 14-minute video, which gives the the highlights of the match at Manchester, below.

The routine bout was made interesting by Sonny Whiting, who talked trash about Vijender Singh, in the pre-match statements.

Though the Briton, who is just four matches old, was vastly inexperienced when compared to the Olympian Vijender Singh, that did not stop him from running down his more mature rival.

Vijender Singh, uncharacteristically for a Haryanvi, kept cool and refused to respond, opting to focus on his training.

The strategy clicked and in the ring on Saturday Sonny Whiting was stumbling, lacking in confidence and no match for the Indian.

Vijender Singh started cautiously fending off erratic attacks, but grew confident in the second round, and had Sonny Whiting fighting from the ropes. Though the Indian won the match on technical knockout, Whiting would have gone flat had the referee not stepped in to stop the contest.

Vijender will play his next match on October 30 at Harrow.

Indian roads are a global joke - see any travel book on the country,  you will find a vivid description of the pot holes and the holy cows which act as ubiquitous dividers.

Popular community forum Reddit has started a thread to crowdsource photographs of India's best roads.

Member posts have come from many parts of the country capturing India's immense diversity - roads winding through the majestic mountains to running alongside serene seas or just cutting through the plains.

The selection is more of  a tribute to the diverse landscape of the country than to the civil engineering ability of our officials.

The operative word in the selection below is roads not always motor-able roads -  a few photos are country paths or trekking trails, but all soaked in breathtaking scenery.

There is a mad scramble for tickets among Mumbaikars for the upcoming Zubin mehta concert, with many fans lining up in the queue a full 17 hours before the counter opened.  .

Western classical music legend Zubin Mehta is scheduled to perform in Mumbai, his hometown, on October 25 and 26 at National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA).

While the NCPA ticket counter was scheduled to open at 9.30 am on Saturday, patrons started lining up on Friday afternoon at 4 pm, reports The Times of India. While a few Zubin Mehta fans had come themselves, many had sent their drivers or other staff to sweat it out.

Anticipating the rush, which is usual for a Zubin Mehta concert, organisers had planned to issue tokens. Instead of standing in queue all night, patrons could collect their tokens and come back again on Saturday for tickets.

But the tokens added to the confusion as many did not know and had to buy them from touts who had managed to corner them.

As some one said on Twitter, Mandela (left) meets Vasco Da Gama (right)

October 11, 2015, NewsCrunch

For Indians feeling low after the narrow loss to South Africa in cricket, there was some comic relief on Twitter.

PM Modi posted a tweet comparing Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal, who was visiting him, to South African icon Nelson Mandela.

Modi also explained his reasoning: Badal had spent long years in prison and that made him the Nelson Mandela of India.

Badal claims that he has spent 17 years of his life in jails as a political prisoner - first in the civil liberty agitation, then during Emergency and finally in 1980s when Punjab went through a turbulent phase. Many have disputed this account and say he spent far less time in jail than it is reported.

Whatever the truth of the claim or the lack of, it Twitter did not take to kindly Modi comparing Badal to Mandela. Badal faces serious corruption and nepotism charges and under this watch Punjab has gone to drugs.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has become the first Modi minister to take a firm stand against the demand on the government to ban beef consumption in the country.

Speaking on Sunday he rejected Baba Ramdev's demand for a national law to ban beef consumption, reports The Indian Express.

As it was a sensitive matter the government should not take a stand to satisfy any one group, but leave it to the individual opinion to decide, he said.

He also dismissed that RSS was behind the demand to ban beef.

Parrikar hails from Goa, one of the few states in India where cow slaughter is allowed. He also has a reputation for speaking his mind and occasionally issuing denials later on.

A video produced by the Government of Karnataka has sent a few popular poems of popular Kannada poet, Kuvempu, viral.

Uploaded on October 8, the video, Barisu kannada dindimava, which borrows its title from a widely sung Kuvempu poem, has clocked 170,000 views on Youtube.

The six-minute long video draws its lines from a few other memorable Kuvempu works as well, such as Kannada ene kunidaaduvudennede and Elladaru iru Enthadaru iru.

The Karnataka government, which wanted to connect these poems to the younger generation, spent Rs 5 lakh to produce it, reports Bangalore Mirror.

Krupakar-Senani Pictures, of the well-known wildlife photographers, assembled a talented team to render the song, which was performed by eight singers.

The music was composed by Poornachandra Tejaswi and directed by Sunil R, both of who had worked at Lucia, an ambitious Kannada movie that stunningly pulled off a sort of low-budget Interception plot.  Poornachandra Tejaswi, who also acts in the video, interestingly shares his name, with an illustrious son of Kuvempu.

The video is a little self-righteous, slightly xenophobic and the music has a predictable, heard-this-before ring. But there is palpable energy, an impressive location, India’s cleanest city Mysuru, and a couple of youngsters raising up for their culture, to make Kuvempu’s magical words go viral.

A video of Haryana minister Krishan Kumar Bedi reveals why PM Modi’s pet project Swachch Bharat Abhiyan has failed to take off.

Taking part in a sanitation programme at Fatehabad, Haryana Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment  Krishan Kumar Bedi wielded the mandatory broom on Sunday. Surrounded by officials, he commented “Look what we are forced to do under the Prime Minister Modi’s regime”.

His comment, made in good humour, triggered a round of laughter. Wary that he had spoken before cameras, he asked a journalist if anyone was doing reporting. But he again spoke with a chuckle leading to more laughter.

As his nightmare came true and a few TV channels started playing up his comments, he tried to give a different spin.

Krishan Kumar Bedi told PTI  that as a few officials were not taking the programme seriously, he was telling them that they were being forced to pick up the broom because of (PM) Modi.

Many customer comments on Flipkart's mega sale continue to be critical

October 13, 2015, NewsCrunch

Flipkart's annual mega sale The Big Billion Days is back with a bang and the company wants to make it five times bigger this year.

The company also seems to have learnt some lessons from last year's fiasco and is prepared better this time.

Last year, Flipkart reportedly made Rs 600 crore in the one-day sale on October 6. This year the sale would be held over five days and the revenue target is Rs 3,000 crore.

The company last year faced three problems. There were complaints that the most attractively priced products went out of stock the instant the sales began at 8 am. Some found the website struggling to cope with the traffic.

After the sale was over Enforcement Directorate began a probe after traders associations complained that Flipkart's huge discounts were putting them out of business.

This year so far NewsCrunch has not come across out of stock complaints, though some have alleged that prices have been jacked up to support steep discounts.

There are also some complaints on the app taking time to load - this year the sale is only on mobile devices.

Flipkart is promising discounts up to 80% on select products. So, we need to see how offline traders would respond to it this time.

The cobras, notoriously short-tempered, meekly endure the abuse. One or two hiss, but their anger is quickly dismissed and the man picks them up and throws them away without missing a beat.

The video is not shot in a zoo but possibly in a private enclosure, which uses these animals for performance shows, which are a huge tourist attraction in Thailand.

They are possibly defanged or even have had their mouths sewn shut and are harmless to the man. What you see in the video a shameful case of animal abuse than a display of individual bravery.

If you look behind him, you will find many dead snakes.
