The acrimonious fight on Facebook page, Mums of Bangalore took a serious turn with the Kannadiga mothers filing a police complaint against a Facebook user, who has allegedly offended the state language and culture.
A video posted by Samanya Kanndiga group shows a small group of women lodging the complaint at the cyber cell of Bengaluru police.
The Facebook user, Pooja Rathee, who has been charged with offending Kannadigas, has apologised.
The group admin Moya Caddy, a British national, who reportedly favoured Rathee and deleted a few Kannada speakers from the group, has been advised to seek police protection, reports Bangalore Mirror.
The Facebook group in question, Mums of Bangalore, has transformed into Mums of India, with a new URL.
A bitter fight broke out when Rathee posted a message saying she hated Bangalore and would not learn Kannada.
The Kannada speakers of the group objected and a war of words followed polarising the mums in the group on linguistic lines.
Bengaluru, a melting pot, has been by and large, free of shrill language and religious tensions.
Many have pointed out that it was the cosmopolitan nature of the city, owing largely to the accommodating Kannadiga, that has nourished the software industry.
But over the last few years, Kannaiga-non-Kannadiga clashes have surfaced. Kannada groups feel that their hospitality is abused when migrants speak offensively of Kannada language and culture, and have been quick to react.
As a large Facebook group Samanya Kannadiga puts it, we will never provoke you, and please, do not provoke us. It won't do you any good.
