Senior Bollywood actress Shabana Azmi taunted AIMIM Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday asking if he would be ok saying 'Bharat ammi ki jai' instead of Bharat mata.
She was responding to Owaisi’s comment that he would not chant 'Bharat ammi ki jai' even if a knife was put to his throat.
Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2016, Shabana said, "I would like to ask Owaisi sahab, if would he be ok saying 'Bharat ammi ki jai' instead of Bharat mata…if he has got a problem with 'mata' and not 'bharat'."
Shabana’s husband, Javed Akhtar, who had earlier taken on Owaisi on the same issue was by her side when she spoke. Making his last speeh at Rajya Sabha, Javed had attacked Owaisi as a mohalla leader before chanting 'Bharat ammi ki jai' a few times.
