A striking photo of Karnataka CM Siddaramiah presenting budget in torch light after power failure has gone viral.
Siddaramaiah, who presented his 11th budget, was embarrassed when power tripped twice plunging the state assembly into darkness.
The first time, power came back quickly, and the second time, the breakdown lasted for three minutes.
Deccan Herald reports that an official sitting in the gallery turned on the torch light on his mobile phone and gave it to a watch and ward staff, who held it close to the CM.
Siddaramiah opted to pause than carry on with his speech as the mike had also fallen silent. One opposition member blamed him for starting his speech in the rahu kala, while another demanded that candles be brought to the Assembly.
A probe has been ordered into power failure and officials are blaming it on a technical glitch.
